Some info on Hanshi John Greenhalagh
John Greenhalgh was born in Manchester in 1942. He began his martial training in 1967, studying first Shotokan karate, attaining the grade of 1st Kyu, and then Atemi-Jutsu, attaining the grade of 1st dan. John gained his 2nd shodan with the British Ju-Jitsu Association. This was followed by a move to the World Ju-Jitsu Federation, where he was made Senior Technical Officer, was graded up to 6th dan in both Ju-Jitsu and Kobudo, and travelled abroad teaching in Germany, Denmark and Sweden.
In 1995, John joined Hanshi Richard Morris' World Kobudo; having known Hanshi Morris since the 1970's. Today, John is still teaching in the Salford and Manchester area, where he has been based since 1975. Over 250 of the people that have trained under John, over the years, have been awarded black belts in Ju-Jitsu. John has taught in schools, and numerous self defence courses, as well as in the dojo.
John's grades have been recognised by the Japanese Dai Nippon Botoku Kai, who have the patronage of the Japanese Royal Family. John was the first 6th dan in England to receive this honour.
WELL DONE TO ALL THE JUNIOR STUDENTS WHO PASSED THEIR BELT TESTS AT THE CLUB
The World Budo Development Society has been created to bring together like-minded martial artists from around the world to co-operate regardless of style or affiliation. The concept came about having listened to many martial artists and noting their requirements and for their students. Research conducted in strictest confidence.
The World Budo Development Society was conceived when several masters formulated an agenda for all members to aspire to and to work in unison for the positive promotion of the martial arts. With this in mind, the secretary of the Martial Arts Brotherhood and founder of the Masters Council, Mr Neil Horton, discussed ways forward that would benefit members and students alike, whilst putting the positive ideals of the martial arts to the fore. The research and conversations seemed to point to specific areas of dissatisfaction amongst the martial arts community and found that this was prevalent worldwide. Not just around the UK, across the globe and reached all continents.
The WBDS is free from politics and does not discriminate in any shape or form. There are seven patrons to the WBDS ~
The WBDS has called upon many masters that have been of assistance, for example, Dan Inosanto, Fumio Demura, Stan Schmidt, Roy J Hobbs, Harry Cook, Julian Mead, Austin Goh, Tommy Morris, Tatsuo Suzuki, etc etc.
Free from Politics
There have always been prolific problems with politics in the martial arts around the world. Politics that have had a detrimental and negative conclusion. It is safe to suggest that many issues and arguments have erupted has a direct result of politics. So why has politics been so prominent? Well having spoken to many Masters Council members and associates and friends, the reasons are numerous but do stem from certain key issues, but those in the main being egoism and financial gain.
Egoism in the form of a chief instructor believing he is better or has more right to have a say than the next man. Or he believes he has more respect or a better black belt qualification that his counterpart compared from one association to another or from one style to another. The WBDS will not treat any member any better or show more respect to one instructor over another. The WBDS has not appointed nor will appoint a chief instructor. By not having a chief instructor allows all to have an equal say and in any case, the WBDS caters for a wide range of disciplines which means it would be inappropriate to have a singular top master. All dan grades are to be held in the same high esteem regardless of who they are or what style they teach or associate to. For instance, a fifth dan in karate will have the same rights as a first dan in aikido.
